Franz Josef Land

September 2026

RI1FJL

Nothernmost DXCC in the world

PANS

PLANS

Dear DXers!

We are pleased to announce the upcoming major DXpedition to Franz Josef Land - the archipelago in the Arctic ocean, that belongs to the Russian Federation and is the northernmost DXCC in the world. Team of 6 operators will be QRV with at least 5 high-power stations 24/7 on all HF bands during 15 days. Our goal is to work as many stations as possible, paying attention to distant regions and low-pistols. We will have a good location with a clear take-off to all most common directions.

DXpedition schedule

The departure is scheduled on the 25-th of August 2026 from Murmansk - the largest city in the world located beyond the Arctic Circle. Estimated travel time is 6-7 days, depending on the weather and sea condition. Our vessel is a 20-meter sailing yacht, designed for sailing in Arctic latitudes.

We will set sail to Heiss Island, where the Geophysical Polar Observatory is located.
We are currently negotiating with the observatory's management to accommodate the expedition. We are confident that they will grant permission.
Fingers crossed that the coastal strip will be free of ice and we'll find a safe way for zodiac landing.

The average temperature on FJL in late August-early September is around 1-3*C below zero, with some winds and snow, so we are expecting a quite extreme wet landing and an even more difficult departure!
The band conditions in such high latitudes are expected to be not good most of the time, so we are working hard to prepare effective and powerful equipment!

How to work us on CW/SSB

We'll try to keep two stations in CW and SSB most of the time. Please use the DX cluster to find out where we are because we'll not publish any band plans. Please remember, that we are always using SPLIT!! Please don't call us on our transmit frequency.

How to work us on FT8

We will run FT8 on special frequencies from the beginning of our activity. Please use the DX cluster to find out where we are. However, later we can move to the usual FT8 sub-bands if number of callers will decrease greatly.  MSHV software will be in use on this side (not SuperFox).

LOG&QSL

LOG & QSL info

We will upload our QSOs to ClubLog at least once a day. You can check your CFM using the form below or directly on ClubLog web-site. We will use "DXpedition Mode", so you can see all the statistics, best time to work us from your region, etc.

If you are not in the log, the best way is to try to work us again. All missed QSOs/busted callsigns, etc emails must go to: rv6ali@yandex.ru and they will be processed only after the dxpedition!

Check your QSOs on ClubLog.

You can use OQRS to request QSL-card. Direct OQRS will give you fast LoTW CFM when we get back from the DXpedition. We expect this to be 7-10 days after we QRT.

For those who provided support before and during the expedition, a card will be sent to their home address automatically

Bureau QSL-card request is free of charge

CONTACTS

Contacts

During the DXpedition, any direct contacts with team members most likely will not be possible. For that reason we have decided to work with the pilot. We will communicate with our pilot daily to receive most important questions and information.
